Fine Scottish Cuisine in Argyll
The Royal an Lochan Restaurant

The Royal an Lochan seafood: always fresh, always local, always delicious!
The menu in the Royal an Lochan restaurant includes both traditional and speciality dishes such as our duck, chicken and halibut dishes which are styled to make the most of seasonal vegetables. The Seafood Menu makes the best use possible of the best in Scottish seafood, is tried and tested and is always a firm favourite. But don’t just take our word for it. Top Scottish chef Tom Kitchin said in the October 2012 BBC Good Food Magazine that his ideal meal would be our fresh, Tarbert Landed langoustines. High praise indeed!
The restaurant with its panoramic sea views across to the Isle of Bute is warm and inviting with artwork by Scottish artists, many of which are based locally, on display, courtesy of the Tighnabruaich Gallery, providing a warm and vibrant ambience.
There is also FREE WiFi available in the restaurant and repeaters are installed throughout the hotel providing an excellent broadband signal.
Fresh, Seasonal Produce Sourced from
Local Suppliers
While we serve a variety of meat, poultry and game dishes from our seasonal menus, it’s our Seafood Menu that has put us well and truly on the map and earned us a well-deserved reputation as one of best restaurants in Argyll to enjoy Scottish seafood at its best.

Pan Roasted Duck Breast marinated roast cherry tomatoes, plum puree and buttered Ratte potatoes
We use only the best fish such as haddock and halibut, scallops, mussels, clams and langoustines for our menu and because of our regular pickups of the local Tarbert-landed catch, all our seafood is guaranteed as fresh as possible when it hits your table.
If you fancy an alternative to seafood, we also have a mouthwatering selection of chicken, duck, pork and beef dishes cooked to a very high standard using fresh, local produce wherever possible, accompanied by the freshest, seasonal vegetables.

The Royal Shinty Bar in Tighnabruaich

Rub shoulders with the locals in the Shinty Bar
The walls of the Shinty Bar are adorned with photos of Kyles Athletic Shinty team, one of the best teams in Scotland. The photos date back to 1901 and are displayed along with other Shinty memorabilia. We serve a range of more traditional home cooked bar foods using the fresh produce available to us. So why not pull up a barstool, have a pint with the locals and enjoy some hearty bar food. Alternatively on a nice sunny day why not eat outside and watch the world and the yachts go by.
As great believers in the use of local seafood and produce, The Royal an Lochan is a member of the Seafood Trail which is a must for all ‘sea foodies’.
