Bute Jazz Festival
2nd – 5th May
The Bute Jazz Festival is one of Europe’s most popular jazz festivals. It’s an exciting mix of Jazz and Rhythm and Blues with top musicians coming from far and wide to perform. Starting on the Saturday, there is a free jazz parade where all the bands and artistes jam away as they march towards Rothesay’s esplanade fountain and gardens. During the parade there are many brightly coloured, decorated umbrellas and a prize is awarded to the best one at the end of the procession.
So why not make the most of your May Bank Holiday Weekend and visit the Bute Jazz Festival. More details are on the Bute Jazz Festival website.
Loch Fyne Food Fair
17th – 18th May
The Loch Fyne Food Fair is annual treat for seafood lovers everywhere. Visitors and suppliers gather in the fields next to the Loch Fyne Oyster Bar at Cairndow for a seafood feast with wine and entertainment. The centrepiece is the Food Tent where producers have on offer delights such as Arbroath Smokies, Orkney Herrings, Loch Fyne Oysters, Gravadlax, smoked salmon, shellfish, and a host of non-seafood like venison, puddings, preserves and ales.
There is also live music, a craft tent, children’s entertainment and talks about food.
The Fair is open from 11am – 6pm, admission is free and parking is £3 per vehicle. Visit the Loch Fyne website for more details.
22nd – 25th May
The Scottish Series is the premier yacht racing event in Scotland and in 2014 celebrates 40 years. This annual event is traditionally held on Loch Fyne with over 100 yachts expected to take part and as usual will use the scenic, coastal fishing village of Tarbert as a base. This is a fantastic event for spectators to enjoy and soak up the on shore atmosphere and festivities. Visit the Scottish Series website for more details.
